The 1st Letter to the Hebrews Chapter 12 Verses 18 thru 24
18 You have not approached that which could be touched and a blazing fire and gloomy darkness and storm 19 and a trumpet blast and a voice speaking words such that those who heard begged that no message be further addressed to them, 20 for they could not bear to hear the command: “If even an animal touches the mountain, it shall be stoned.” 21 Indeed, so fearful was the spectacle that Moses said, “I am terrified and trembling.” 22 No, you have approached Mount Zion and the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and countless angels in festal gathering, 23 and the assembly of the firstborn enrolled in heaven, and God the judge of all, and the spirits of the just made perfect, 24 and Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and the sprinkled blood that speaks more eloquently than that of Abel.
Hebrews 12:18-24 contrasts two monumental gatherings: Mount Sinai, where the Law was given, and Mount Zion, symbolizing the New Covenant through Christ. The passage opens by describing the terrifying experience of the Israelites at Sinai, where they encountered God amidst thunder, lightning, and a dense cloud. This scene emphasizes the holiness of God and the gravity of the Law, illustrating the fear and distance felt by the people, who were unable to approach the mountain.
In stark contrast, the author reveals the joyful assembly at Mount Zion, symbolizing the Kingdom of God. Here, believers are invited into a relationship marked by grace rather than fear. The gathering includes the spirits of the righteous made perfect and Jesus, the mediator of the New Covenant. This shift underscores a transformative journey from the bondage of the Law to the freedom of grace.
The scripture speaks powerfully to humanity's need for connection and acceptance. It reassures us that through Christ, we have direct access to God—a privilege that was not available at Sinai. The mention of the “blood of sprinkling” that speaks better things than Abel’s signifies Christ’s ultimate sacrifice, which brings forgiveness and reconciliation instead of judgment.
In essence, Hebrews 12:18-24 highlights the pivotal transition from the old covenant of fear to the new covenant of grace. It encourages readers to embrace their identity as part of the heavenly assembly, where they are loved and accepted. This passage calls us to respond with reverence and gratitude, recognizing the profound change brought about by Christ. Ultimately, it reassures believers of their secure position in God’s family, encouraging a life lived in the fullness of His grace. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

**Moses said; I Am Terrified and Trembling**
Upon the mountain, shadows loom,
In thunder’s roar and fire’s bloom,
The law was given, fierce and bright,
Yet fear was felt, not pure delight.
O Sinai, where the spirit trembled,
The holy ground, where hearts assembled,
With dread, the people stood afar,
A God of justice, fierce as star.
But lo! A new dawn shines above,
Mount Zion calls with peace and love,
Where saints rejoice, the spirits sing,
In grace’s arms, true hope takes wing.
No longer bound by anxious chains,
In Christ, we find the heart that reigns,
The blood that speaks of mercy’s plea,
Through Him, we claim our destiny.
So let us gather, free and bold,
With hearts ignited, warm as gold,
In joy, we rise to heaven’s light,
Embraced by love, our future bright. Amen.
