The Letter to the Ephesians Chapter 5 Verse 6 thru 14
6 Let no one deceive you with empty arguments, for because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the disobedient. 7 So do not be associated with them. 8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light, 9 for light produces every kind of goodness and righteousness and truth. 10 Try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. 11 Take no part in the fruitless works of darkness; rather expose them, 12 for it is shameful even to mention the things done by them in secret; 13 but everything exposed by the light becomes visible, 14 for everything that becomes visible is light. Therefore, it says: “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light.”
In Ephesians 5:6-14, the Apostle Paul emphasizes the contrast between light and darkness, urging believers to discern the significant difference between the two. He begins with a warning against being deceived by empty words; we live in a world filled with distractions and misleading ideals that can draw us away from the truth of the Gospel. Paul reminds us that such folly leads to spiritual death, while the path of righteousness leads us closer to God.
Paul’s words encourage us to listen carefully and apply what we learn in our daily lives. He calls us to awaken from spiritual slumber and to embrace our identity as children of light. This is not merely an invitation to avoid darkness but a charge to actively live in a way that reflects God’s goodness, righteousness, and truth. When we align our lives with God’s purposes, we become vessels of His light in the world, illuminating the path for others.
As children of light, we bear the fruits of the Spirit: goodness, righteousness, and truth. These qualities reflect Christ’s nature and stand in stark opposition to the darkness that surrounds us. Recognizing that light produces every kind of goodness challenges us to evaluate our actions, words, and thoughts, ensuring they are pleasing to the Lord.
Paul concludes this passage with a stirring reminder that light has the power to transform not just our lives but the lives of those around us. As we step into the light, we also encourage others to see the beauty and hope found in Christ. Let us strive to live as children of light, illuminating the way for others, and fostering a community rooted in God's love and truth.
Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. **Awake O Sleeper Arise From The Dead**
In shadows deep, where darkness creeps,
A whisper calls, from depths it leaps.
"Take heed," it says, "to light that shines,
For love will break through sinful lines."
No longer walk where waste does dwell,
For empty words weave tales to tell.
But rather, let the truth abound,
In hearts awakened, hope is found.
Expose the deeds that chase the night,
Let daylight pierce the veil of fright.
For wisdom's song, a guiding star,
Will lead us home, no matter how far.
Awake, O sleeper, rise anew,
Let grace abound, and mercy too.
In every word that’s spoken free,
Reflect the love, we’re called to be.
For in this light, we find our way,
A fragrant hope for each new day.
So turn from darkness, walk in grace,
And let the dawn of Christ embrace. Amen.
