The Gospel of Luke 17 V- Seven and Ten
7 “Who among you would say to your servant who has just come in from plowing or tending sheep in the field, ‘Come here immediately and take your place at table’? 8 Would he not rather say to him, ‘Prepare something for me to eat. Put on your apron and wait on me while I eat and drink. You may eat and drink when I am finished’? 9 Is he grateful to that servant because he did what was commanded?10 So should it be with you. When you have done all you have been commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants; we have done what we were obliged to do.’”
In Luke 17:7-10, Jesus presents a profound lesson on humility and the nature of service. He uses the analogy of a master and servant to illustrate the expectation of obedience without seeking reward or recognition. The servant who has worked all day does not expect to be thanked or rewarded for merely fulfilling his duty. Instead, he is simply doing what is required of him. This passage challenges us to examine our motivations for serving others and living out our faith.
As I reflect on these verses, I feel a deep sense of peace in the notion of complete surrender. Living a life devoted to Christ means embracing the idea that our service is not about gaining accolades or recognition. It’s a call to serve selflessly, recognizing that our actions are an expression of our faith rather than a means to earn favor or compensation. This perspective liberates us from the burdens of expectation and entitlement.
When we accept our role as "unprofitable servants," we acknowledge that our works are not to be bartered for blessings. Instead, they are responses to the grace we have already received. This understanding fosters a spirit of gratitude and humility, allowing us to serve others with joy rather than obligation.
Living without concern for cost or repayment is a hallmark of true discipleship. It invites us to trust in God's provision and sovereignty, knowing that our labor in His name is valuable, even if it goes unnoticed. Ultimately, our lives become a testament to His love and grace, reflecting the heart of Jesus. In this surrender, we find fulfillment and purpose, serving not for ourselves but for the glory of God. Amen.
Join me as we pray our daily prayer of forgiveness. The Lord’s Prayer.
At the Savior's command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant peace in our days, that, by the help of your mercy, we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress, as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.
I am sorry Lord. I believe You died and rose for me. Please forgive me as I forgive others. I share You as my Lord and Savior seeking to live your Will in all things. Prayers for wife Toni and my mother Betty pray for our children especially our two oldest Alexandra & Allen Son in Law Mark Stern; Julian, Gabriel and Jeffrey and our grandchildren Oliver, Julian and Elliott. We pray for those we’ve said we’d pray for and those who’ve asked us to pray for them. We pray for the dying as we do each day Lord give them peace in their last breath. We pray for Holy Mother Church. Our prayers for our niece Brittany. In Jesus Precious Blood by His Name we pray. Amen.

**We Have Done What We Were Obliged to Do**
In fields of toil, from dawn till dusk,
The servant works, his hands are brusque.
No fanfare waits at day’s long end,
For duty calls, and he must learn to bend.
“Did you thank him?” the master might ask,
Yet gratitude's not the servant’s task.
He labors on, with heart sincere,
For love of duty, not for cheer.
In humble hearts, true service grows,
Like quiet seeds, where grace bestows.
No need for praise, no yearning glance,
Just faithful steps in their holy dance.
“For we are unprofitable,” he knows,
Yet in our toil, true purpose flows.
Not for reward, nor earthly gain,
But to reflect His love, our eternal aim.
We surrender our hopes, our fears laid bare,
Trusting His plan, His gentle care.
In every task, a chance to bless,
In simple acts, we find our rest.
So let us serve, with joy, not strife,
Embracing the call to a Christ-filled life.
For in our labor, our meek and mild ride,
We find our worth, His love, our guide. Amen.
